Augmentin
Augmentin is the trade name that is used by the company GlaxoSmithKline to market the combination antibiotic Co-amoxiclav. This combination antibiotic contains Calvulanic acid as well as Amoxicillin. Some of the other names that the Augmentin antibiotic is known by are Clavamox, Synulox and Clavaseptin. As an antibiotic, Augmentin is used for treating certain types of bacterial infections. Infections of the respiratory tract, abdominal tract, urinary tract and the teeth can all be treated through the application of Augmentin. Augmentin use may be required every day for a long period of time, and this can be difficult for children; sometimes a toddler refuses to take Augmentin because of the taste which most people find very unpleasant. Augmentin XR is a variant of Augmentin which is used in the United States as a treatment for pneumonia that has spread throughout a community.
Augmentin side effects: the antibiotic Augmentin side effects do not usually lead to a serious medical situation where one's life is threatened. If one is allergic to penicillin, Augmentin should not be taken as it belongs to the same family of antibiotics and can lead to a threatening allergic reaction. However, ordinary side effects of Augmentin are diarrhea and vomiting.
Even if someone never was allergic to Augmentin before, if they suddenly seem to display an allergic reaction while taking the Augmentin antibiotic you should immediately consult a doctor and have tests taken so that their treatment can be quickly changed. Augmentin dosing varies with different sizes of Augmentin tablets that are meant to be taken at varying rates. Some larger tablets such as the Augmentin 875 mg tablet or Augmentin 500 mg tablet are meant to be taken once per day or at a rate of one every eight hours or so, while in some extreme cases the dosage may be doubled.
