Indocin

Indocin is an NSAID (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) used for pain relief and fever reduction. Commonly, Indocin is used for inflammation and pain caused by many conditions, including arthritis, bursitis, and gout. Indocin treatment for PDA, or patent ductus arteriosus, which is an open blood vessel between the lungs and aorta is also prescribed often. The name for generic Indocin medication is indomethacin.

The side effects of Indocin may include blurred vision, gas, or rash. These side effects are considered minor, and while they are usually not bad enough to require you to stop taking Indocin, your doctor should still be informed of all minor side effects you experience. More serious side effects are also possible, and require immediate medical care. Such side effects include rapid weight gain, chest pain, and vomiting or coughing up blood. Indocin is a class "C" drug, and pregnant and nursing women should avoid taking it. If you become pregnant while taking Indocin, let your doctor know right away. Indocin should not be taken by patients with heart disease, asthma, and kidney or liver disease. Your doctor should know about all your medical conditions before prescribing Indocin for you. Also let him or her know about all medications you are taking, even over the counter drugs and vitamin or herbal supplements. This is because some drugs should never be taken together, such as Indocin and Altace (or other ACE inhibitors), as they may lead to potentially life-threatening drug interactions.

Indocin is not a narcotic, so it is not likely to become habit-forming. But you should always take Indocin exactly as prescribed, to avoid an overdose. Overdose of Indocin may cause shallow breathing, nausea, or even coma. You must seek emergency medical help if you have overdosed on Indocin. Your doctor will want to schedule regular blood tests if you are a long term user of Indocin, to make sure you aren't developing any problems resulting from the medication. If any other doctor or specialist needs to run medical tests on you, you should let him or her know you use Indocin, as it may affect certain test results.

If you are unable to purchase Indocin at your local pharmacy, or if you are unable to get out to pick it up, there are many online pharmacies where you may buy Indocin for delivery to your home. All you will need is your doctor's prescription. You should check several online pharmacies, to compare prices so you may get the lowest costing Indocin.
