Lopid

To know how to properly use Lopid, you must first know exactly what Lopid is. Lopid is a type of drug that is meant for lowering cholesterol and triglycerides. Lopid is a statin, which basically means it is a lipid-lowering drug that reduces cholesterol by inhibiting a key enzyme in the liver. This means that less “bad” cholesterol is produced within the body and more “good” cholesterol is made. Also known as Lopid 900, Lopid and other statins, such as Zocor and Lopid, should not be combined. Since Lopid and Zocor are similar in the way they act in the body, and similar in their effects on the liver, combining the two could mean detrimental effects, including liver failure. Combining Lopid with statin-free drugs, such as Diflucan, should also be discussed with your doctor. This is because, even if the drug has another intention, some of the side effects can be similar. Diflucan and Lopid typically have negative interactions, because they can both cause harm to the liver.

When comparing Lopid to other cholesterol lowering drugs, many factors should be considered. Your doctor will discuss family history of illness, as well as your own medical history in order to determine which drug will be most effective and cause the least harmful effects on you. When comparing two drugs, such as Tricor vs. Lopid, you should consider all facets of your health as well as Lopid side effects compared to other medications. Some minor side effects of Lopid can include being tired, as well as experiencing blurred vision, indigestion, headaches and vomiting. These are typical when taking Lopid, but if they become bothersome you should discuss them with your doctor. More severe side effects of Lopid can include allergic reactions such as hives, as well as liver problems and muscle pain.

Lopid is also available in generic form, and this medicine is known as Gemfibrozil. Some insurance companies will only pay for generic brands, and it can save you tons of money to buy the generic brand (keep in mind that the drugs will act exactly the same). Not everyone should take Lopid, including those who have liver or kidney problems, as well as those who take medicines such as Simvastatin. Typically, the medicine should be taken twice a day, and the dosage will depend on many factors, including how high your cholesterol is when beginning the medication. Since Lopid can cause side effects, regular blood testing is typically performed to monitor any changes within the body. Testing is also done to make sure that the Lopid is working.
