Sporanox

Sporanox is a marketed drug known as Itraconazole which is an antifungal agent that treats fungal infections. It inhibits fungi by interfering with the cell membrane formation. This drug can be taken orally, as a solution or as capsules, and it can also be taken intravenously. A common Sporanox dose is 200 mg a day, possibly 400 mg with severe infections. There have been some instances in which 600 mg a day were given but this has only been in life-threatening situations.

Sporanox should be prescribed by a doctor and the dosage carefully followed; usually the drug is injected intravenously at a clinic or hospital. As with any medication, Sporanox must be taken regularly if it is to be effective. Sporanox kills fungi, but is not effective treatment against viral infections. It is important to monitor Sporanox because not only can the drug cause a second infection after longterm use, it has also been known to cause rare cases of liver dam

Sporanox Side Effects

Sporanox has been known to cause minor side effects such as diarrhea, dizziness, gas, headache, nausea, stomach pain and stuffy nose. There have also been major side effects reported, mainly associated with allergic reactions or patients who have another serious medical condition. If you start to experience symptoms of congestive heart failure (swelling, bloating, shortness of breath or irregular heartbeat) then immediate medical attention is required. One reason close monitoring by a doctor is required is because Sporanox PPI may conflict with other medications such as aldosterone blockers, H antagonists, Medazolam and many others. Sporanox and Viagra has been listed as another risky combination.

Sporanox irrigation has been compared with Ampho B irrigation and has been reported to be effective in treating some fungus infections. However, because of the drug's possible side effects there has been much reported in the way of Sporanox malpractice product liability. It has proven effective in treating Onychomycosis, Histoplasmosis, Blastomycosis and Refractory Aspergillosis. Patients who have chronic disorders or suffer from conditions as diabetes, circulatory problems or immunological deficiencies have a higher risk of fungus infection.

Recently, Sporanox pulse dosing was given attention in the press. It was announced that Sporanox capsules were medically cleared for pulse dosing in the treatment of fingernail fungus, the first of its kind. Pulse dosing refers to when the patient takes medication daily early on, escalating the antibiotic levels in the period, and then ceases for a prolonged dose-free interval. For example, a patient may take Sporanox for one week out of the month for 4 months. Many patients prefer this regiment because it's less expensive and can be effective treatment for some. Sporanox pulse dosing consists of 200 mg twice a day with a three week rest period.
