Vicodin

Vicodin is a brand name product of the drug Hydrocodone, or Dihydrocodeinone. It may also be sold as Vicodin ES and Lortab, or sold generally as Acetaminophen/Hydrocodone Tablets. Vicodin, which is an analgesic combination, is used as pain relieving medication. Acetaminophen lowers chemicals in the brain that stimulate nerve pain while Hydrocodone, binds to receptors, the body's natural pain relievers, in the brain and nervous system. A combination of both drugs may work well in relieving a patient's moderate to severe pain.

Instructions On Vicodin

Vicodin should be prescribed by a doctor, who will be aware of any possible interactions between the Vicodin medication and any preexisting medical conditions. These might involve a medical condition like a bacterial infection, a history of alcoholism or drug abuse, have asthma problems, have suffered recent head trauma, stomach or intestinal problem or chronic inflammation. Some substances may also conflict with the medication, whether from other prescription drugs, such as Barbiturate anesthetics or Sodium Oxybate or even certain foods and beverages. Vicodin should not be mixed with alcohol, nor should pregnant women take the drug without first consulting their doctor. Vicodin is usually not recommended for elderly patients or children, because of various risks, including liver damage.

Dangers Of Vicodin

What are some of Vicodin's side effects? Some more common side effects include blurred vision, dizziness, drowsiness, flushing and mental/mood changes. There may be episodes of nausea, vomiting or constipation. More severe side effects may result because of an allergic reaction. Patients who have had feelings of suicide or have attempted suicide in the past, are advised not to take Vicodin because of possible side effects.
